Muay Thai, meaning “Combat Thai,” is the national martial art of Thailand.

Muay Thai is an excellent style of Martial Arts for self defense.  Different techniques for striking with punches, elbows, knees and kicks are incorporated as well as clinching techniques for closer combat.

Meet Coach Zenon

Zenon Dembitsky started training Muay Thai in the year 2000 at Black Tiger Gym in San Diego.   He was there from 2000 to 2015 coaching and cornering Muay Thai fights and Mixed Martial Art fights In the United States.

Zenon has also trained at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand and has taught and trained in Japan, Italy, Ukraine and Costa Rica.

Muay Thai is a stand up martial art and although there are trips, it is not a ground self defense martial art.

At SOCA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu San Diego Rancho Bernardo, it is an excellent compliment to the Jiu Jitsu taught.   Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu together are very effective together since you can be comfortable while defending yourself standing with Muay Thai and on the ground with Jiu Jitsu.

The equipment for Muay Thai it is best to get 16 oz gloves those are ideal for training, but any gloves are okay for class.   Other important pieces of equipment are mouth guards, cups, hand wraps, and shin guards.
